Static Rundown Screens
Static Rundown Screens are our simplest, most cost-effective, non-Compaction and non-mechanical separation or dewatering unit that have absolutely no moving parts, require no power, very little maintenance, and are very scalable, equally applicable for small installations through to very large, high throughput projects.

What they do
Operation:
The slurry to be separated is either pumped or gravity fed into the Rundowns full-width header tank at the top of the unit, and when full, the slurry breaches the tank’s weir and flows down onto the Rundowns Sieve Screen, starting the separation process.

How it works
Applications:

A very versatile unit that can be used in many applications & industries, and is designed for many installations:
Standalone units are not only sited in one fixed position on the ground or a gantry/framework but can also be mobile to be taken to numerous locations: mounted on a trailer, have wheels/casters, or made for craning or forklifting.
Integrated into a process line as a first stage to remove large amounts of the liquid before compacting.
Scalable, where many Rundown Screen units can be coupled together to meet large-scale capacity requirements, enabling huge throughputs.
Built into a flow/waste-water channel or waterway where solids or unwanted contaminants need to be removed or captured. Single or coupled units can be used to bridge the width of the channel or meet the throughput/capacity requirement. Working on the same function principle – the flow stream breaches the unit’s weir and can be used in two ways:
- To clean up a waterway/drainage channel or capture solids – the solids left on the upper surface of the screen are taken down the solids route, and the liquid that has passed through the screen continues down the channel.
- Flow reduction/control and capturing of the liquid element – the liquid that has passed through the screen is captured and is routed away, any solid matter and surplus flow that has overwhelmed the Sieve Screens capacity, continues down the channel.
All the above designs have options for covers, doors, and manual or automatic washing.
See Filtration for products to enable the washing water to be recycled.
As some of the above configurations are built into installations, all our units are designed so that the Sieve Screen can be easily lifted out without having to remove the whole unit.

How it works
Non-Compaction:

Although our static rundown screens make the best use of the curved 10° tilted Wedge Wire Sieve Screen technology and benefit from far fewer solid particles smaller than the sieve screen gap passing through the with the liquid (For more details, visit Dewatering & Separation under the Non-Compaction heading), gravity is the only force present, which creates certain limitations:
- Slurries with a low Dry Matter, simplistically pumpable.
- The minimum sieve screen gap size is around 200 microns, as any smaller can risk screen blocking issues, even with automated washing. This can be overcome by considering a Vibrating Rundown that can go down to 80 microns, a Rotary screen separator or a Compaction machine, or another option is using coagulation technology. Visit coagulation for more details.
- Greasy, sticky, certain viscous, and dissolved solids slurries tend not to work on static Rundowns as they cause blinding issues (we can advise on this). In certain cases, our vibrating units can cope with some of these difficult slurries, or you could consider another Separator type.
- The dry element tends to be a low Dry Matter and is non-stackable – needs contained storage
How it works
Throughput:

Slurry throughput is determined by a combination of three parameters:
Slurry type and its viscosity:
We can generally advise
Rundown size, Screen width, and height:
Standard units:
- Width options 0.5m – 4.0m
- Height options, 1.1m & 1.9m
Bespoke sizes and designs can be manufactured:
Coupling units together to fit into a specific installation or to cater for a large throughput
Solid particle size removal from the liquid:
Many Sieve Screen gap sizes:
- From 0.2mm – 2.0mm (larger gap sizes can be supplied).
How it works
Limitations

As static rundowns are a non-compaction separation method that simply relies on gravity to separate the solids from the liquids, there are certain limitations:
- Using fine sieve screens with a small gap size; risk of screen blocking issues.
- The solids in the slurry need to be non-greasy/sticky and in suspension.
- The wetness of the dry element that is non-stackable – needs contained storage
Coagulating the slurry before passing over the rundown screen enables significantly more small solids to be removed from the liquid but can add ongoing cost to the separation process.
